| Since 1989, an homogeneous Crassostrea gigas oyster stock has been distributed once a year on several rearing sites in Brittany (3 populations per site). The main quantitative and qualitative growth descriptors, which reflect water quality effects during the monitoring period, are estimated at the end of each year. The 1989-1992 analysis prompted us to describe various growth responses correlated to biotops: oyster production in open areas influenced by oceanic waters was fairly constant in quality, including size and Polydora sp. infestation. In contrast, oysters in estuarine areas, partly affected by eutrophication (e.g., Aber Benoît, Pen Bé), or with a low carrying capacity, were characterized by weight and Polydora sp. infestation heterogeneity. | The network IFREMER/ REMORA watches every year, from February to December, mortality, growth and quality criteria of two oyster batches ("juveniles" = one-year class ; and "adults" = two-years class), distributed among various stations of the main French oyster areas. This network is a tool for trend estimations (geographic and chronological, on the national scale) ; it must not be regarded as an accurate estimation of professional oyster ongrowings. With regard to REMORA results, generally tallied with professional observations, 1998 on the whole was a second year of low mortality. | Every year, from March to December, the IFREMER / REMORA network carries out a survey of mortality, growth and quality criteria of two oyster batches ("juveniles" = one-year ciass ; and "adults" = two-years class), distributed among various stations of the main French oyster areas. In Brittany, this network includes 11 points, to which regional points can be added (15 in 2000). With regard to the Breton stations of the network, the year 2000 showed rather low mortality rates, excepted mortality of several oysters when transfered to the sea. | Introduction Starting in 1986, the ANVAR contributed well appreciated financial support in order to set up an original seeding technique characterized by artificial seeding production in a laboratory.
